Effective seals protect against heat, cold and draughts. In showers, they also help keep water inside the shower enclosure.

Windows, doors, refrigerators, freezers, cold rooms and showers in wet areas. Laboratories and operating theatres, too. They all have one thing in common: they require properly fitting and effective seals.

Facility Maintenance

Equipment and technical installations in hospitals, clinics, care homes and hotels must operate reliably. To ensure this, appliances, systems, components and materials need to be regularly inspected, maintained and replaced when necessary. Seals are no exception. Although they often go unnoticed, their proper functioning is nevertheless important.

Replacement Seals

Everyone is familiar with seals on windows and doors. However, refrigerators, freezers, cold rooms and showers also rely on seals. Over time, various factors can cause seals to become brittle, lose their elasticity or become damaged. This can impair their sealing performance and make replacement necessary.

How long a seal performs reliably depends on several factors, including the material used, environmental conditions and the level of wear and tear. If worn or damaged seals are not replaced in good time, this can lead to increased energy consumption, unwanted air or water ingress and additional maintenance work.

Why Replace Seals?

A properly functioning seal helps save energy. On windows and doors, it reduces heat loss in winter and limits the entry of warm outdoor air in summer. This contributes to a comfortable indoor climate while also helping to reduce energy costs.

Seals also perform an important function in showers. Seals and sealing lips prevent water from escaping the shower enclosure, protecting adjacent surfaces and building components from unnecessary moisture. At the same time, they help reduce cleaning requirements.

Properly functioning seals are equally important for refrigerators, freezers and cold rooms. They help keep cold air inside and prevent warm ambient air from entering, thereby reducing unnecessary energy consumption.

For certain applications in healthcare, food processing and catering, the seals used, or the materials from which they are made, must meet specific requirements. Depending on the application, relevant specifications (FDA/KTW) and requirements relating to hygiene, food contact or drinking water must be observed. The suitability of a seal therefore always depends on the specific application and material.

Appearance can also play a role. Depending on the product and design, seals are available in a variety of colours. Common colours include white, black, grey and brown. Shower seals are also available in transparent and black versions, among others.

Choosing the Right Replacement Seal

Finding the correct replacement seal is not always straightforward for maintenance staff in hospitals, clinics, care homes and hotels. Particularly with older installations or windows, it is often unclear which seal profile is required.

The poesia Group offers an extensive range of more than 5,000 profiles for a wide variety of applications. These include seals for windows, doors, facades, showers, refrigerators and cold rooms.

But what if the required seal is not available as a standard profile? There is a solution for that too. Customised seals can be developed and manufactured to meet specific requirements. New seals can be produced with minimum quantities starting from just 300 metres. The specialists at the poesia Group are happy to support customers with their technical expertise.

Sample Service

What if you are unsure which seal you need? Customers who have questions or need assistance selecting the right replacement seal can take advantage of the poesia Group's sample service. This helps identify an existing, old or damaged seal before ordering larger quantities.

The process is simple: the customer removes a section of the old seal and sends it by post to the specialists at the poesia Group. They compare the submitted profile with the available seal profiles and look for a suitable solution.

If the original seal is no longer available, customers can alternatively submit a detailed drawing showing the installation situation or a photograph of the required seal.

Information about the required length, colour and specific application is also helpful.

An even easier option is to use a smartphone: WhatsApp is also available as a contact channel. Interested customers can photograph the seal that needs replacing and send the image, together with a short message, to +41 79 515 45 95.

Once a suitable profile has been identified, the customer receives one or more free samples within 24 hours for testing. This allows them to check whether the profile fits correctly before placing an order.

Installation

Many seals can be installed easily with a little practical skill. For refrigerator seals, ready-made, customised solutions are also available. This requires accurate information about the required profile and its dimensions.

Depending on availability, standard products can be supplied from stock at short notice. However, actual delivery times depend on the specific product and the required version.
